CER Today – August 12, 2020
Don't miss what's happening in education today, around the country.
PARENTS RALLY FOR KIDS:
While decisions are being made for students around the country, more parents than ever are realizing that they need a more powerful voice in determining what happens in their child’s education. The Parent Rally on Facebook asks a different question each week for parents to answer to help us amplify what parents want. In gratitude we’ll be choosing a lucky parent each week to receive a MacBook! Check it out and share!
FRIDAY:
Speaking of What Parents Want, that’s the name of this week’s ACTION Series event. Join leaders of parent groups in answering the question.
LAST WEEK:
- Jeanne Allen opined on Fox & Friends about school reopening and the importance of parents and teachers in educating our kids. We received much response to Jeanne’s appearance, here’s a sample:
“Thank you so much for articulating what teachers like me believe, teachers are innovators . . . teachers know how to teach in many ways . . . in many environments. Teachers are ESSENTIAL! ¡Muchas gracias mi amiga!” – Teacher from Sussex Central High
- It’s time for kids to go to school in whatever way, shape or form their parents think is effective, Jeanne Allen tells Griff Jenkins on FoxNews Saturday, “If ever there was a cry for personalized learning, it’s now.”
- “Why can’t we waive attendance zones for this emergency?” Jeanne discusses what it will take to get kids back to school, with Paul Gigot on the Journal Editorial Report this past weekend.
WATCH:
Renaissance Charter School in Cooper City Florida was featured on the news because they’ve figured out a way to give instruction in the classroom and virtually at the same time. This gets us back to that “I” word so hated by the education establishment — innovation.
TWEET, TWEET, TWEET:
No, not sounds from the birdcage, but a way for you to stay up to the minute on the rapidly changing scene of school openings, debates, wild charges, and flat out lies that the establishment is using to defend the thoroughly discredited status quo. Join us on Twitter to see the latest.
LISTEN:
Hard to imagine that August is almost half over already. We hope your plans for school are shaping up , and that you and yours remain safe. As always, let us know if there’s any way we can be of assistance. In the meantime, here’s one of America’s most iconic summer bands playing perhaps THE most iconic summer tune. Turn up your speakers and put on your dancing shoes. By the way, the Beach Boys’ Mike Love — on the right in this video — is a friend of CER and the cause, and appeared in one of our celebratory videos. Thank you, Mike!
