“WASHINGTON, D.C. – This afternoon, President Trump announced a “kids first“approach to reopening school.s In response, Jeanne Allen, the founder and chief executive of the Center for Education Reform, issued the following statement:
“Talk to any parent in America right now, and you’ll discover one issue that’s keeping everyone up at night: How will their kids be educated when schools reopen?
“Some parents want to send their kids back to a traditional classroom. Other parents prefer to do their own schooling, with an emphasis on digital and personalized learning. Others favor a blended solution. Regardless of their decision, every parent should enjoy the opportunity to choose among high-quality options.
“Indeed, the best way to help parents is for Congress and the President to give them choices. For example, we should incentivize and reward innovation. We should suspend attendance zones. We should allow taxpayer dollars to follow a student, through a virtual backpack. And, above all, we should not allow teachers unions to hold students hostage to political agenda.”
