Before becoming State Treasurer and Governor, re-elected Governor Doug Ducey got real world experience working at Proctor & Gamble and then turning Coldstone Creamery into a nationally successful business. The secret to Coldstone’s success was a willingness to try new concepts – giving customers a wide choice of add-ons (oreo crumbles, butterfinger pieces, gummy bears, fruits, nuts, etc.) with their ice cream. Ducey has carried that philosophy over to his support of giving education’s “customers” – students and parents – a wide variety of choices including charter schools and education savings accounts. But with a reform-adverse new state education superintendent taking the lead over veteran education reformer Frank Riggs, he’ll be working upstream for a while.
