June 30, 2000.  The U.S. Supreme Court rules private school students are indeed entitled to the benefits of the federal Chapter 2 program, and New Jersey Supreme Court rules charter schools are constitutional.

Education officials from at least five states will hold a private meeting at the National Governors’ Conference to discuss what options are available to them in achieving education reform measures such as standards and assessments, school finance, charter schools, and ways to institute increased local control.
